New England Patriots defensive tackle Christian Barmore, 25, was diagnosed with blood clots.
“Over the weekend, Christian Barmore was diagnosed with blood clots. He was appropriately treated by the doctors at Mass General Brigham, who tested, evaluated and treated Christian,” the team announced.
“Our principal concern at this time is Christian’s health and wellbeing. Fortunately, Mass General Brigham provides some of the best healthcare in the world,” the statement continued.
“While there is no current timetable for his return, we know Christian is getting tremendous care and we look forward to his full recovery,” it added.

Per ESPN:
Barmore’s agent, Nicole Lynn, also thanked Patriots athletic trainer Jim Whalen for “his absolute diligence and care over the last couple of days.”
On Instagram later Sunday, Barmore wrote: “Thank you everyone for all the support, thoughts, and prayers. I’ll be back soon.”
In 2019, longtime Patriots center David Andrews missed the season after being diagnosed with blood clots in his lungs. He returned to play in 2020. Andrews, 32, enters his 10th season with the team this year.
Barmore, who turned 25 on Sunday, is entering his fourth season with the Patriots after being selected in the second round of the 2021 NFL draft out of Alabama.
“Christian Barmore is dealing with blood clots that, had they gone untreated, could have delivered the most dire of circumstances,” Ian Rapoport said.

Although it’s unknown if Barmore received the experimental COVID-19 jab, the New England Patriots franchise heavily promoted the shot.
In February 2021, the Patriots posted photos showing they had added new decals to promote the COVID-19 jab that read, “When it’s your turn, take the shot. Get vaccinated.”
The team announced it was flying 76 vaccinated healthcare workers on the jet to attend the Super Bowl.

The same team plane the Kraft family used to deliver over a million masks from China last April will transport 76 vaccinated healthcare “super” heroes from New England to Tampa for Super Bowl LV on Sunday. Vaccinations make that possible. A great full-circle story. pic.twitter.com/burYifhZUR

From the New England Patriots in February 2021:
Ten months after sending the New England Patriots team plane to China to secure and retrieve desperately needed PPE for healthcare workers, the Kraft family was once again moved by a desire to support the frontline heroes who have worked tirelessly throughout the pandemic.
On Sunday, Feb. 7, the Patriots plane will again be filled for a unique purpose, this time with a patriotic 76 vaccinated healthcare workers representing all six New England states. As guests of the Kraft family, these healthcare “superheroes” will be granted an all-expenses paid trip to Super Bowl LV in Tampa, Fla., including roundtrip travel on the Patriots team plane.
The mission of this trip is two-fold: to recognize and thank a representative group of the countless healthcare superheroes in New England, and to celebrate and spread the important message of getting vaccinated.
“Last April, when our plane returned with masks from China, we never could have imagined the devastation this pandemic would cause, nor could we have dreamed of the heroic stories and achievements that have come to be as a result, especially the dedication of healthcare workers on the front lines and the creation of safe and effective vaccines,” said Patriots Chairman and CEO Robert Kraft. “Ten months later, it’s an honor for us to celebrate these healthcare workers by giving them a well-deserved break for a day and an opportunity to enjoy the Super Bowl, a reality that is only made possible because of the vaccines. We hope that in doing so, others are also encouraged to get vaccinated as they are able. Once again, we want to say thank you from the bottom of our hearts to all of the healthcare heroes who have risked their well-being to ensure ours. They are truly superheroes to us.”
