Trump warns Iran against escalating counterattacks: 'they better not do that'

President Donald Trump on Sunday declared that if the Iranians followed through with a planned counterattack in the region, he would escalate American strikes on their country.

"Iran just stated that they are going to hit very hard today, harder than they have ever hit before," he posted on Truth Social. "THEY BETTER NOT DO THAT, HOWEVER, BECAUSE IF THEY DO, WE WILL HIT THEM WITH A FORCE THAT HAS NEVER BEEN SEEN BEFORE! Thank you for your attention to this matter!"

At least nine people are dead in Karachi, Pakistan, after hundreds of protesters stormed the U.S. consulate in that city in the wake of the U.S. killing of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khomeini.

A further 25 sustained injuries in clashes with police, the Associated Press reported. Police officials confirmed that demonstrators had set fire to a nearby police station and managed to break the windows of the consulate building, though the authorities were able to break up the riot, and it does not appear that anyone entered the facility.

Iran's supreme leader has been killed after U.S. and Israel launched a military operation in the country, according to a multiple reports on Saturday and confirmed later by Iranian state media.

Abbas Araghchi, Iran's foreign minister, had said earlier in an NBC News interview on Saturday that Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and President Masoud Pezeshkian were alive “as far as I know.”
