Biological Male Wins State’s Beauty Pageant

A biological male won the title of Miss Maryland USA.

“Bailey Anne, the newly crowned Miss Maryland USA, is the first trans woman to hold the coveted title. She's also the first Asian-American and military officer’s wife to represent the state,” DC News Now wrote.

“Transgender man wins women’s beauty pageant and gets crowned Miss Maryland USA. Bailey Anne, who identifies as a woman, won the prestigious women’s beauty pageant and proclaimed 'Empowered women, empower women' after his win,” Oli London wrote.

“Anne also said he hope his win will inspire LGBTQI+ children 'I knew that it was going to mean a lot for all the LGBTQ kids out there who might feel like they don’t belong in a box – like me growing up.' The model beat dozens of women, who had dedicated years of their life during parent training, to win the converted crown,” he added.

DC News Now reports:

Anne hopes her win will encourage LGBTQ+ kids to be themselves. When asked if she had to overcome any fears of being the only trans woman in the pageant, Anne said she did not and felt supported by the “sisterhood” of women competing with her on stage.

“I felt confident in my own skin at 31, which is past the old age limit, which is 28 — as you know Miss Universe Organization lift the restriction now — so every woman of all ages can compete.”

Anne said she “hopes that it will open up some doors, open up some hearts for people to see that there are many aspects of LGBT community out there and I hope I can be a positive contribution to society in making a difference like the USO program like I’m working with.”

Anne will be heading to Los Angeles to compete for Miss USA. The competition is scheduled to air on Sunday, August 4 on The CW.
