BREAKING: Mitch McConnell Sustains Injury After Fall During Senate Republican Lunch

Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) fell during the Senate Republican lunch on Tuesday and sustained an injury to his face.

According to the New York Post, the outgoing Senate Republican leader cut his face and EMTs treated his injury.

From the New York Post:

The longest-serving GOP leader in Senate history fractured a rib and was concussed after a fall last year that briefly hospitalized him.

He announced in February that he was stepping down from his leadership position after the 2024 election.

“Medical staff with a wheelchair were called in to assist after the senator fell during the lunch in the ornate Senate reception room,” Daily Mail noted.

Daily Mail reports:

He also has a cut on his face according to a witness in the room.

Sen. John Barrasso, the incoming whip, told DailyMail.com that McConnell ‘is fine.’

A medical official also indicated afterward to press that he was fine.

McConnell suffered several health scares following a fall last year leading to bizarre ‘freezing episodes’ that sparked concerns.

McConnell was the longest-serving GOP leader in Senate history with a roughly 18-year tenure.

But his yearslong feud with Trump put him at odds with many in the GOP who wanted a MAGA leader going into the president-elect’s second term.

Earlier this year, he shocked colleagues by announcing he would be stepping down from the leadership role.

This story is developing.
