Despite the stock market downturn, President Donald Trump and key figures in his administration continue to reassure the public that the long-term benefits of his tariff policies will far outweigh the short-term volatility.
Ahead of Monday’s meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump issued a statement seeking to further tamp down any anxiety brewing among his supporters or the American people as a whole.
As Fox News reported:
Before the much-anticipated meeting with Netanyahu, Trump took to Truth Social and called for patience on tariffs : “The United States has a chance to do something that should have been done DECADES AGO. Don’t be Weak! Don’t be Stupid! Don’t be a PANICAN (A new party based on Weak and Stupid people!). Be Strong, Courageous, and Patient, and GREATNESS will be the result!”
Israel’s Ambassador to the U.S. Yechiel Leiter told Fox News Digital, “This meeting comes at a critical moment on many key issues: the efforts to return our hostages being held by Hamas, the instability in Syria and the threats posed by Iranian proxies.”
“The recent implementation of tariff policy will also be discussed. Just as Prime Minister Netanyahu was the first world leader to visit President Trump in his second term in the White House, he is now once again the first leader to meet with the president with regard to deepening economic ties and putting trade relations in order,” he added.
There have been plenty of other statements by Trump administration officials and surrogates in the wake of last week’s “Liberation Day” tariff announcements:
Trump’s been right on trade for 35 years. Washington sold out our workers. That ends today.

“Oil prices are down, interest rates are down (the slow moving Fed should cut rates!), food prices are down, there is NO INFLATION, and the long time abused USA is bringing in Billions of Dollars a week from the abusing countries on Tariffs that are already in place.” —POTUS pic.twitter.com/LhoMgc6qMX

Trump also called on Americans to be “strong, courageous, and patient,” as AP News reported:
The Republican president has insisted his tariffs are necessary to rebalance global trade and rebuild domestic manufacturing. He accused other countries of “taking advantage of the Good OL’ USA!” on international trade and said “our past ‘leaders’ are to blame for allowing this.” He singled out China as “the biggest abuser of them all” and criticized Beijing for increasing its own tariffs in retaliation.
Trump also called on the Federal Reserve to lower interest rates. On Friday, Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell warned that the tariffs could increase inflation, and he said “there’s a lot of waiting and seeing going on, including by us,” before any decisions would be made.
Here’s a recent clip of Trump’s stance on the policy:
