Elon Musk Jabs White House Adviser After Latest Tariff Explanation: ‘He Ain’t Built S***’

Billionaire Elon Musk has already left his mark on President Donald Trump’s second term with his leadership within the Department of Government Efficiency.

In the wake of Trump’s latest tariff announcements, however, the world’s richest man is showing some daylight between himself and at least one prominent White House adviser.

When Peter Navarro appeared on CNN in an effort to cushion the impact of the recent stock market sell-off, Musk, who initially lost billions, offered a scathing indictment of Navarro’s economic expertise.

As the Daily Mail reported:

Musk responded to a post that noted Navarro has a PhD in economics from Harvard, to which he said: ‘A PhD in Econ from Harvard is a bad thing, not a good thing.

‘Results in the ego/brains>>1 problem.’

After a user responded to say that Navarro was ‘correct’, Musk remarked: ‘He ain’t built s***.’

Musk’s brazen break with Trump’s inner circle comes days after it was revealed that he would be stepping down from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), leaving the Trump White House early in a surprise move.

The perceived evidence of palace intrigue sparked significant social media commentary:

Of course, this isn’t the first time media outlets seized on reports of discord within the Trump administration.

Politico provided additional coverage of Musk’s recent posts:

Musk also responded to another user posting a quote attributed to well-known conservative economist and commentator Thomas Sowell as saying “in every disaster throughout American history, there always seems to be a man from Harvard in the middle of it.”

“Yup,” Musk wrote under the post, seemingly referring to Navarro.

Sowell has sharply criticized Trump’s tariffs, warning that they could set off a global trade war and possibly trigger another Great Depression.

But despite his brief attack on Navarro, Musk continued boosting other Trump administration policies on his social media platform later into Saturday morning, promoting his own work with DOGE and reposting content applauding Trump’s border policies.

And here’s a recent clip that shows a united front between Navarro and Musk on other key economic policies:
