First Results Of 2024 Presidential Election Are In!

The first results of the 2024 presidential election came from the tiny community of Dixville Notch, New Hampshire.

And the results are favorable for President Trump.

Trump and Harris tied 3-3.

In 2020, Biden took the unincorporated township 5-0.

The community has a quirky tradition of opening their polls upon midnight on Election Day.

Per CNN:

The unincorporated township, located along the US-Canada border in New Hampshire’s northern tip, opened and closed its poll just after midnight ET in a tradition that dates back to 1960. Four Republicans and two undeclared voters participated.

While Dixville Notch isn’t always predictive of the eventual winner – or even the state’s pick – its annual production, despite a dwindling population, is a success story for local leaders and a reason to smile for political junkies eager for an early taste of the day’s events.

By tradition, all eligible voters gather at the now-dormant Balsams Hotel in Dixville Notch to cast their secret ballots once polls open at midnight. Once every ballot is cast, votes are tallied and results announced – hours before anywhere else, making it a destination for national reporters, who often outnumber the voters.

WMUR reports:

Of the six registered voters, three supported Democrat Kamala Harris, while three others voted for Republican Donald Trump.

In the governor’s race, five voters chose Republican Kelly Ayotte, while one voter went with Democrat Joyce Craig.

Dixville Notch is in the state’s 2nd Congressional District, so voters also cast ballots in that race, with four votes for Democrat Maggie Goodlander and two for Republican Lily Tang Williams.

The voting process in Dixville Notch took just 10-15 minutes or so.

The tradition dates back nearly 65 years, with the first documented instance occurring in Millsfield during the 1936 general election.

Only two presidential candidates have secured every vote in Dixville Notch, including Richard Nixon in 1960 and Joe Biden in 2020.
