Tragic news hit the baseball world as the 14-year-old son of former New York Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner passed away during a trip to Costa Rica.
“Our hearts are heavy, and the Yankees family is filled with grief after learning of the passing of Miller Gardner. Words feel insignificant and insufficient in trying to describe such an unimaginable loss. It wasn’t just Brett who literally grew up in this organization for more than 17 years – so did his wife, Jessica, and their two boys, Hunter and Miller,” the Yankees said in a statement.

From the New York Post:
Food poisoning is now being eyed in the tragic death of former New York Yankee Brett Gardner’s 14-year-old son Miller, Costa Rican cops said Tuesday.
Authorities ruled out asphyxiation, which was originally reported as the cause of death, and warned that it could take months before authorities could say for certain why the teen died Friday at a high-end resort in the country.
Costa Rica’s Judicial Investigation Police said an initial examination of Miller Gardner’s body found that his airways were not obstructed.
“Therefore, various samples were sent to the [agency’s] Forensic Science laboratories for three analyses: histology, toxicology and neuropathology,” a rep for the department said in an email to The Post. “A study was also requested from the Costa Rican Institute for Research and Teaching in Nutrition and Health at the University of Costa Rica.
“The results are expected to be available in two to three months due to the high demand for autopsies being performed in the country due to the increase in homicides.”
Brett Gardner, his wife Jessica and their sons, Miller and Hunter, were vacationing at the upscale Arenas Del Mar Beachfront & Rainforest Resort outside Manuel Antonio National Park when he was found dead in his bed, according to officials.
“With heavy hearts we are saddened to announce the passing of our youngest son, Miller. He was 14 years old and has left us far too soon after falling ill along with several other family members while on vacation. We have so many questions and so few answers at this point, but we do know that he passed away peacefully in his sleep on the morning of Friday, March 21st,” Brett and Jessica Gardner said in a statement.

Per USA TODAY:
Results should be available in two to three months due increased homicides in the country and high demand for autopsies being performed, García said.
The case is being investigated by agents from Quepos and Parrita, and the case is being handled “as a death under investigation,” García said.
Miller’s body was found Friday in a hotel room in Manuel Antonio, a resort area on Costa Rica’s Pacific Coast, reported NBC News and CNN.
Miller is the son of former New York Yankees player Brett Gardner, who played 14 seasons in the MLB. Brett retired after the 2021 season. He was also part of the Yankees’ championship team in 2009, was named an All-Star in 2015 and won an American League Gold Glove in 2016.
The teen’s parents shared news of his death Sunday afternoon via the Yankees’ social media accounts. The family said he and other family members got sick while on vacation in Costa Rica.
