This is quite shocking.
The former leader of the Christian band Newsboys has been hit with sexual assault allegations.
If you’re not familiar with the band, you probably heard their hit song “God’s Not Dead” if you listen to Christian radio.
Well, now explosive allegations have emerged that the band’s former lead singer, Michael Tait, sexually assaulted three men.
KPLCTV covered the story more in-depth:
Michael Tait, the former leader of the Christian band Newsboys, has been accused of sexual assault and drug abuse, according to a report by The Roys Report.
ADVERTISEMENTAccording to the report, Tait, who was formerly in DC Talk, is accused of sexually assaulting at least three men between 2004 and 2014. The men were all 22 years old at the time of the alleged abuse.
Two men said they were drinking alcohol with Tait and later woke up to him touching their genitals. One of the men said that while on the Newsboys tour bus, Tait offered him cocaine, according to the report.
The third man said that Tait gave him a massage while the two were skinny dipping and later invited him to sleep in his bed. While in the bed, Tait allegedly massaged his anal region without consent, according to the report.
On Thursday, Newsboys shared a statement about Tait’s alleged actions on social media.
“Last night, our hearts were shattered when we read the news alleging drug abuse and inappropriate sexual actions by our former lead singer, Michael Tait. While Michael has not addressed these allegations, we are devastated even by the implications,” the group said. “First and foremost, our hearts are with the victims who have bravely shared their stories. If you are a victim, we urge you to come forward. We absolutely do not condone any form of sexual assault.”
Newsboys said that before Tait left the group in January after being the lead singer since 2009, he “confessed to us and our management” that he “had been living a double-life.” They added that they “never imagined that it could be this bad.”

Newsboys frontman and former member of the Grammy Award-winning group DC Talk, Michael Tait, is being accused of grooming and sexually abusing three men in 2004, 2010, and 2014.
In a scathing two-and-a-half-year investigation conducted by The Roys Report, the separate alleged incidents describe a pattern of grooming and non-consensual contact.
ADVERTISEMENTTait rose to fame in the ’90s with the legendary Christian rock band DC Talk. The group won four Grammys with their 1995 album “Jesus Freak,” which spent 79 weeks on the Billboard 200 list.
After DC Talk decided to take a break, Tait became the lead singer of Newsboys in 2009. With Tait as the frontman, the band saw renewed success and landed four #1 albums, along with movie appearances and a performance for President Donald Trump.
In January, Tait stepped down as Newsboys’ lead singer without explanation. His bandmates were caught off guard.
In a post made to social media, Newsboys addressed the allegations:
“Last night, our hearts were shattered when we read the news alleging drug abuse and inappropriate sexual actions by our former lead singer, Michael Tait. While Michael has not addressed these allegations, we are devastated even by the implications.

Tait has not been charged with any crime, as all allegations are currently unproven.
