Former Major League Baseball pitcher Reyes Moronta tragically passed away in a motorcycle crash in the Dominican Republic.
“We are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Reyes Moronta, who pitched for the Giants, Dodgers, Diamondbacks and Angels over six seasons. He was 31,” the league announced.

According to the Associated Press, Moronta was riding in the Villa Gonzalez community in the northern part of the country when the accident occurred.
“We deeply regret the tragic death of pitcher Reyes Armando Moronta. In these moments of pain, we want to express our most sincere condolences to his family and friends. Rest in peace,” Dominican team Águilas Cibaeñas wrote on social media.

He had just been released from Bravos de Leon, of the Mexican League, last week.
Moronta made his debut for the San Francisco Giants in 2017. He received a majority of his appearances in the subsequent two seasons. He had a 2.49 ERA in 69 games in 2018 and a 2.86 ERA in 56 games in 2019.
He signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2022, and the Arizona Diamondbacks claimed him off waivers from the Dodgers later in the season. He signed with the Angels in May 2023 and was released after the season.
He had a 3.05 ERA in 177 appearances over six years in the majors.

Moronta appeared in 22 games for the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2022.
NBC News noted:
The Mexican Baseball League said in a translated post that it joins “in the grief that overwhelms his family, friends and former colleagues.”
Moronta was born in the Dominican Republic. At 17, he signed as an international free agent with the San Francisco Giants in September 2010.
