HHS Reportedly Set To Take Significant Action On COVID-19 Jab

Multiple outlets report that the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) will no longer recommend COVID-19 jabs for children and pregnant women.

According to STAT News, the announcement came at an event marking the launch of a new “Make America Healthy Again-affiliated think tank called the MAHA Institute.”

“Something just happened that’s really special. I was asked to please make this announcement,” Executive Director Leland Lehrman said, according to the outlet.

“You might’ve already heard, but today the secretary is announcing that HHS and the CDC are going to stop recommending routine Covid shots for children and pregnant women,” Lehrman added.

STAT reached out to HHS for comment. The news was first reported by the Wall Street Journal. It’s unclear how Kennedy would enact such a change, since federal health agencies typically rely on independent advisory bodies for vaccine recommendations. It would be highly unusual for the secretary to circumvent his advisers and reverse a recommendation from the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices.

“And without any process, it’s even worse,” said Dorit Reiss, a law professor at UC Law San Francisco who studies the anti-vaccine movement. “Overturning the recommendation means that insurance companies will no longer have to cover these vaccines.”

During and after his confirmation hearings in the Senate, Kennedy assured on-the-fence lawmakers that he would not take away anyone’s vaccines. However, withdrawing a recommendation would have the effect of limiting access by making people pay out of pocket for Covid shots. There are myriad other ways Kennedy could reshape the nation’s vaccine policy, and he has shown so far that he is willing to cast doubt on shots from his post at HHS.

“Thank you to President Trump and RFK for following the science that shows the risks of the COVID vaccine in children exceeds the benefits,” Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) said.

At present, the CDC recommends everyone six months and older, including pregnant women, receive the Covid vaccine.

But the recommendation for young and healthy individuals has long been criticized, given the groups face a low risk of hospitalization and death from the virus.

There are concerns over side-effects linked to the shots, including myocarditis — or heart inflammation — which is rare, but slightly more common among young adults.

There have also been concerns pregnant women are not benefiting from the vaccine, although studies show it is safe for the group and doesn’t raise their risk of miscarriage, stillbirth or birth defects.

It was not immediately clear whether the recommendation for those groups to get the Covid vaccine would be removed completely or updated just to say patients should consult with their doctors.

RFK Jr has long targeted Covid vaccines, filing a petition with the FDA in 2021 — six months after the rollout began — to have their use suspended.

His circle also includes a number of individuals who have been critical of the shots.

Dr Jay Bhattacharya, who has been nominated to lead the National Institutes of Health (NIH), has previously backed a petition calling for the mRNA vaccines to be paused and retested.

Dr. Aseem Malhotra, who recently became MAHA’s “Chief Medical Advisor,” called for a moratorium on the mRNA COVID-19 jabs.
