Desert Sun has more:

An explosion that rocked downtown Palm Springs Saturday morning was an “intentional act of violence” that has left one person dead, Palm Springs Police spokesperson Mike Villegas said.

The percussive boom was heard and felt across Palm Springs at 10:52 a.m. and was initially reported to be a car explosion near the American Reproductive Centers clinic on North Indian Canyon Drive at East Tachevah Drive. Villegas declined to comment on if the explosion was caused by a bomb.

The fertility clinic reported on social media that all staff are safe, and no eggs or embryos were damaged.

The FBI’s Los Angeles office confirmed on social media that the federal agency is on the scene with “investigators, bomb technicians & an evidence response team.”

Palm Springs advised residents to stay away from the area so that emergency crews can work the incident.

The American Reproductive Centers, a fertility center and IVF lab, released a statement on Facebook Saturday afternoon following the explosion that impacted the facility.

Dr. Maher Abdallah said a vehicle exploded in the parking lot near the building, located at 1199 N. Indian Canyon Drive in Palm Springs.

No members of the ARC team were harmed, and the lab — including all eggs, embryos and reproductive materials — were fully secure and undamaged. Abdallah wrote that staff conducted a safety inspection and confirmed that operations and sensitive medical areas were not impacted by the blast.

At least one fatality is suspected after the explosion. One local resident on the scene described a grisly scene of possible body and car parts strewn across both Indian Canyon and Palm Canyon drives.

“We are heartbroken to learn that this event claimed a life and caused injuries, and our deepest condolences go out to the individuals and families affected,” Abdallah said in a statement.

“Our mission has always been to help build families, and in times like these, we are reminded of just how fragile and precious life is,” he continued. “In the face of this tragedy, we remain committed to creating hope — because we believe that healing begins with community, compassion, and care.”
