How Many Times Did President Trump Ring That NYSE Bell?

File this under “just for fun” but I saw this post and two very interesting things about it….

First, President Trump does not use the gavel when ringing the NYSE bell this morning.

The bell was long ago made electronic and you now push a button instead of physically ringing a bell, but usually what people do is still hit the gavel after the bell is rung.

Like this:

But President Trump did not do that.

In fact, he didn’t even touch the gavel.

That’s interesting!

And how many times did he ring the bell?

I’ve listened to this multiple times and I am pretty sure it’s 47.

Watch and see how many “dings” of the bell you count:

It’s unclear if the bell dings every time he pushes the button or if the button is only pressed once and the bell goes automatically like that or if the bell goes for as long as the person holds it down….

Either way, I do count 47 dings, how about you?

On Thursday morning, President Trump rang the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange.

President Trump was offered to ring the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange shortly after being declared the winner of Time Magazine's Person of the Year.

As he signed the NYSE's guest book, he was told he was the first president to ring the opening bell since President Ronald Reagan.

Watch the moment here:

Per CNBC:

President-elect Donald Trump rang the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange on Thursday after vowing an economic boom to a cheering crowd of traders and business leaders.

“We’re with you all the way,” the incoming Republican president said in the NYSE building in lower Manhattan, where he was invited after becoming TIME’s “Person of the Year” for the second time.

Trump was flanked by Vice President-elect JD Vance, incoming first lady Melania Trump, NYSE President Lynn Martin and two of Trump’s children, Ivanka and Tiffany, as the bell chimed.

At one point, the room broke into a chant of “U-S-A.”

In brief remarks beforehand, Trump promised that his incoming administration would usher in “an economy the likes of which nobody’s ever seen before.”

“We’re going to give tremendous incentive like no other country has,” Trump told the moneyed crowd, including by cutting taxes “very substantially.”

Listen to the crowd chant "USA":

Per Fox Business:

President-elect Donald Trump on Thursday rang the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange.

The Republican built his fortune as a New York real estate investor before turning to politics. During his first term as president, he measured his success in part by the strength of the stock market, which has so far welcomed his re-election.

The ringing of the bell signifies the start or closing of the trading day at the world’s largest stock exchange, and is considered an honor. The act has historically been reserved for company executives celebrating an initial public offering or other major corporate milestones, but celebrities and politicians like Ronald Reagan, Nelson Mandela and Arnold Schwarzenegger have also rung it.
