Kamala Harris Issues Statement On Los Angeles Riots

Kamala Harris said she is “appalled” at what has transpired on the streets of Los Angeles.

“Los Angeles is my home. And like so many Americans, I am appalled at what we are witnessing on the streets of our city. Deploying the National Guard is a dangerous escalation meant to provoke chaos. In addition to the recent ICE raids in Southern California and across our nation, it is part of the Trump administration’s cruel, calculated agenda to spread panic and division,” Harris said.

“This Administration’s actions are not about public safety – they’re about stoking fear. Fear of a community demanding dignity and due process. Protest is a powerful tool – essential in the fight for justice. And as the LAPD, Mayor, and Governor have noted, demonstrations in defense of our immigrant neighbors have been overwhelmingly peaceful,” it continued.

“I continue to support the millions of Americans who are standing up to protect our most fundamental rights and freedoms,” she concluded.

KTLA reports:

A heavy military presence was seen in downtown Los Angeles early Sunday morning after unrest sparked by ICE raids in the L.A. area and ahead of what is expected to be a third day of protests.

President Donald Trump ordered thousands of National Guard troops to be deployed Saturday night after a raid in Paramount earlier in the day that set off a chain of destructive demonstrations. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, however, said just after midnight Sunday that the National Guard had not been deployed in the city.

Military personnel began arriving at the Federal Building in downtown around 4 a.m. Sunday to ensure that federal agents are protected. More have been deployed to the Hall of Justice, next to City Hall.

“It’s one thing to see a heavy law enforcement presence, but it’s a whole other situation when we have [this many] military personnel in downtown L.A.,” KTLA 5’s Jennifer McGraw said.

A rally has been planned for 2 p.m., but impromptu demonstrations are expected to pop up on Sunday morning.

“If Governor Gavin Newscum, of California, and Mayor Karen Bass, of Los Angeles, can’t do their jobs, which everyone knows they can’t, then the Federal Government will step in and solve the problem, RIOTS & LOOTERS, the way it should be solved!!!” President Trump said Saturday evening.

“A once great American City, Los Angeles, has been invaded and occupied by Illegal Aliens and Criminals.  Now violent, insurrectionist mobs are swarming and attacking our Federal Agents to try and stop our deportation operations — But these lawless riots only strengthen our resolve. I am directing Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, and Attorney General Pam Bondi, in coordination with all other relevant Departments and Agencies, to take all such action necessary to liberate Los Angeles from the Migrant Invasion, and put an end to these Migrant riots. Order will be restored, the Illegals will be expelled, and Los Angeles will be set free. Thank you for your attention to this matter!” he said in another post.

Per NBC News:

Throngs of protesters descended on downtown Los Angeles this afternoon and pushed toward the federal detention center. Law enforcement shot less-lethal rounds to push back the crowds of people, some of whom spilled onto the 101 Freeway and caused the major thoroughfare to be shut down.

Around 300 guard members arrived in Los Angeles this morning after President Donald Trump ordered the deployment of 2,000 troops, a move sharply criticized as inflammatory and unnecessary by California Gov. Gavin Newsom and a “chaotic escalation” by Mayor Karen Bass.

Newsom urged protesters on social media to remain calm. “Don’t give Trump what he wants,” he wrote.

“Border czar” Tom Homan defended Trump’s decision to deploy the troops and warned that Newsom and Bass could be arrested if they impede operation efforts.

Demonstrators protesting federal immigration raids clashed with police in a day of chaos in Los Angeles yesterday, leading to the arrests of 11 people last night for failure to disperse, according to a law enforcement source.
