An individual wielding knives was shot dead by police near the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Witnesses told the New York Post that the man was swinging two steak knives at police near the events headquarters.

The incident reportedly occurred around two hours before attendees were scheduled to take the stage.

Witnesses reported watching the victim run away from security when he was fatally “shot in the back.” At least eight gunshots were heard.

A man claiming to be the victim’s brother told The Post that the unidentified man was homeless — there is a large “tent city” in the area.

Another homeless man claiming to be the victim’s best friend identified the dead man as “Sam,” but was known by others in the encampment as “Jehovah,” referring to a voice Sam heard in his head.

Sam had a crazy look in his eye before he approached police Tuesday, his friend, Edward Watkins, told The Post.

It was known in the community that Sam “wanted to die,” Watkins said, adding that the pair did crack cocaine together.

“Columbus Police have shot a suspect about a mile away from Republican National Convention in Milwaukee. Columbus police are in Milwaukee to help provide security for the convention,” Oliya Scootercaster said.

Five police officers from Columbus, Ohio, shot a man early Tuesday afternoon just west of downtown Milwaukee, three law enforcement sources told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

The man died from his injuries, the sources said.

The shooting occurred near North 14th and West Vliet Streets just under a mile from the security perimeter for the Republican National Convention, according to the law enforcement sources, who asked not to be named publicly because they were not authorized to speak publicly about the ongoing investigation.

The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed an adult male was killed at that location and is responding.

Brian Steel, president of the Fraternal Order of Police Capitol City Lodge No. 9, also confirmed that Columbus police were involved in a shooting in Milwaukee. Steel said no Columbus officers were hurt in the incident.
