This isn’t something you see every day.
A CNN reporter was detained while doing a live report.
CNN correspondent Jason Carroll was detained while doing a report on the LA riots.
The Daily Beast had more on the story:
Police detained CNN National Correspondent Jason Carroll live on air during his coverage of the Los Angeles immigration protests on Monday night.
ADVERTISEMENTWhile reporting on the unrest—which has raged for days as President Trump sent thousands of National Guard troops and even Marines to quell the protests—host Laura Coates quickly crossed back to Carroll, who was talking to LAPD officers.
“I am being detained,” Carroll said. “I’m being detained, Laura.” He could be heard asking police: “I’m not being arrested, correct, officers?”
Carroll later told the network that he had identified himself as a journalist from CNN.
“I turned around, I put my, I had my hands behind my back,” Carroll said of being detained.
“They did not put me in zip ties, but they did grab both my hands as I was escorted over to the side,” he added. “They said: ‘You are being detained while we lead you out of this area, you are not allowed to be in this area.’”

The US Mirror provided context to the story:
Donald Trump authorized the deployment of another 2,000 National Guard troops along with 700 Marines, escalating the military presence in LA. An initial 2,000 troops ordered by the President started arriving on Sunday, which saw the most violence during three days of protests driven by anger over Trump’s stepped-up enforcement of immigration laws that critics say are breaking apart migrant families.
She continued, “Hold on. I wanna – Jason, what’s going on? I hear you. Am I seeing Jason Carroll being – what happened? Jason?” He replied, “I am being detained. I’m being detained, Laura.” He then asked the officers, “I’m not being arrested, correct, officers?”
ADVERTISEMENTOne of the officers then asked the journalist, “Did you hear what he told you?” to which he replied, “No.” The officer then responded, “We’re letting you go, but you can’t come back. Because then if you come back in, then you go. Ok, please?”
Jason then replied, “Ok, thank you, officer,” before addressing Laura again. “If you guys can still hear me, what happened was, I was … ” Jason said, before being interrupted by a witness who said he was a journalist from The New York Times who had filmed the scene on video – and asked him to call the newspaper if he wanted to get the clip.
