Oops! J.D. Vance Fumbles Championship Trophy During Team’s White House Visit

An awkward moment occurred when the Ohio State Buckeye football team visited the White House to celebrate its national championship.

Vice President J.D. Vance nearly dropped the College Football National Championship trophy when he lifted it outside the White House.

“The College Football National Championship trophy falls off its stand as JD Vance lifts it up outside the White House,” Collin Rugg wrote.

“The moment came during the Ohio State football team’s visit to the White House,” he added.

From The Columbus Dispatch:

The Ohio State football team visited the White House April 14 to celebrate the Buckeyes’ 34-23 national championship win over Notre Dame when a notable fumble occurred.

OSU won four straight games, including the Jan. 20 title contest, in the first expanded 12-team College Football Playoff, and they brought the resulting trophy to the South Lawn – a trophy that Vice President JD Vance dropped as he went to lift it.

Vance, an Ohio State graduate, then held up the top half of the trophy while the team posed for photos.

Vance, President Donald Trump, Secretary of Defense Marco Rubio, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and Lieutenant Governor Jim Tressel were all present in Washington D.C., with Trump, Vance and OSU coach Ryan Day all speaking from the podium.

Per 10TV:

The Buckeyes won the first title in the first year of the 12-team playoff, defeating Tennessee, Oregon, Texas and Notre Dame in the final.

It was Ohio State’s first national championship win since 2015 and Day’s first with the program. Trump did not attend the national championship game but did have a prerecorded video that aired during the game, which took place on the same day as the inauguration.

Over the weekend, the football team received three rings during the Ohio State spring game at Ohio Stadium.

Players and coaches from the 2024 championship team received a ring for making the College Football Playoff, one from the CFP for winning it and a championship ring from Ohio State.
