President Trump met with South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa at the White House on Wednesday and confronted him about allegations of persecution and genocide against white farmers in the country.
“People are fleeing South Africa for their own safety,” Trump said.
“Their land is being confiscated, and in many cases they’re being killed,” he added.

Per Reuters:
After a friendly initial chat in which Trump complimented South African golfers and Ramaphosa said he wanted to talk about critical minerals and trade, Trump played a video that purported to show evidence of a genocide of whites.
Ramaphosa mostly sat expressionless while the video was played, occasionally craning his neck to look at it. Trump said the video showed the graves of thousands of white farmers. Ramaphosa said he had not seen that before, and that he would like to find out what the location was.
ADVERTISEMENTTrump then displayed printed copies of articles that he said showed white South Africans who had been killed, saying “death, death” as he flipped through them.
Ramaphosa said there was crime in South Africa, and the majority of victims were Black. Trump cut him off and said: “The farmers are not Black.”
Ramaphosa responded: “These are concerns we are willing to talk to you about.”
In recent months, Trump has criticised South Africa’s land reform law aimed at redressing the injustices of apartheid and its genocide court case against Israel.
He has cancelled aid, expelled South Africa’s ambassador and offered refuge to white minority Afrikaners based on racial discrimination claims Pretoria says are unfounded.
Trump has accused South Africa of seizing land from white farmers and of fuelling violence against white landowners with “hateful rhetoric and government actions”.
“Death. Death. Horrible death. Death,” Trump said as he went through photos and articles in front of Ramaphosa.
“Look, burial sites all over the place. These are all white farmers,” he continued.
“When you look at the videos – how does it get worse? These are people that are officials – they’re saying, kill the white farmer, take their land,” he added.

NBC News reports:
After being asked about his genocide claims, Trump paused reporters’ questions to play a video on a television in the room depicting a montage of clips that he argued backed up his claims.
Ramaphosa responded to the montage, saying that people’s comments in the videos “is not government policy.”
“We have a multi-party democracy in South Africa that allows people to express themselves,” he said.
Asked whether he denounced the language of people in the video, Ramaphosa said “oh, yes.”
When asked by NBC News earlier in the meeting about the White House’s decision to admit white South Africans, Trump alleged that “a lot of people are very concerned with regard to South Africa” and made false allegations about a genocide in the country.
“We take from many, many locations, if we feel there’s persecution or genocide going on,” Trump said.
Elon Musk, who was born in South Africa, joined Wednesday’s meeting alongside several Cabinet officials. Musk has been a staunch critic of his birth country.
