Donald Trump’s second (third…?) presidential term has been filled with surprises.
And the President loves springing surprises of his own.
But as he arrived today in the Middle East for a highly-touted tour with big economic goals hanging in the balance, another nation surprised him with an unusual honor.
Journalists flying aboard Air Force One were caught off guard by an unexpected midair visit as the President’s plane entered Saudi airspace — his first planned destination.
Dan Scavino, WH Deputy Chief of Staff, shared this video while Air Force One was still in the airspace above Saudi Arabia:
Good morning from Air Force One, Saudi Arabia! Thank you for the escort, and having President Trump’s back—We all appreciate it. See you on the ground shortly, THANK YOU!!!

Scavino also passed along a ‘thank you’ to the Saudi’s on President Trump’s behalf in his social media post:

The President’s plane is routinely shadowed by U.S. escort fighters over American airspace.
But it is not at all routine to have — or allow — warplanes from a foreign military in such proximity to the U.S. Commander-in-Chief.
Scavino shared in his post that Air Force One was moments away from landing in Riyadh, where he was met by the Saudi Crown Prince on the tarmac, according to Fox News:
Saudi Arabian fighter jets appeared to escort Air Force One as President Donald Trump arrived in the country on Tuesday for a meeting with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
“Air Force One about to go wheels down in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia with Saudi F-15 fighter jets bringing us in. On behalf of President Trump, THANK YOU!” White House deputy chief of staff Dan Scavino posted on X while sharing a video of jets flying alongside the U.S. president’s plane.
There were reportedly at least five jets — two jets flew on the left side of AF1 and three flew on the right.
Trump arrived at the Royal Court in Riyadh at around 5:30 a.m. EST where he was welcomed with a ceremony and then participated in greetings with Saudi officials and U.S. guests. Trump is expected to have lunch and meetings over a three-hour period.
Here’s an extended video taken by members of the press from onboard Air Force One showing how close the Saudi fighter escort got to the President’s plane.
You can see the Saudi pilots watching the plane intently, likely able to see the journalists looking back through the windows on Air Force One!
The video also features footage following the President’s landing, as the Crown Prince escorts him in to the venue:
That wasn’t the only opulent honor afforded to President Trump as he arrived to the first leg of his Mideast trip.
The President’s Rapid Response X account shared the following video of his ride to the Saudi Royal Court after disembarking from Air Force One.
But instead of the usual force of Secret Service agents flanking ‘the Beast’, he was flanked instead by a contingent of beautiful white Arabian horses serving as a mounted guard:

President Trump gave his signature fist-pump as he stepped out of Air Force One at the top of the exit stairs.
The streets were lined with American flags in honor of the President’s visit, according to a report by the New York Post:
Journalists aboard the presidential aircraft reported that six Saudi F-15s cruised “in close proximity” — three on either side — for the final half-hour of the flight.
Trump’s deputy chief of staff, Dan Scavino, tweeted footage of the unusual escort while still in the air.
ADVERTISEMENTTrump gave a fist-pump as he emerged from Air Force One and was greeted on the tarmac by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
Bin Salman escorted him down a lavender carpet to an indoor meeting space, where the country’s de facto ruler hosted a coffee ceremony.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Energy Secretary Chris Wright, and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick were among the US cabinet members joining Trump’s entourage.
The streets of the scorching Saudi capital were lined with US flags for the visit.
His three-nation tour of the Mideast — also including Qatar and the UAE — is expected to focus on drumming up investments for the US.
President Trump shared on his Truth Social Account that he had arrived in Riyadh with a great set of photos:
And the White House shared this video covering the President’s arrival and meeting with the Crown Prince from a few different angles:
Later in the evening, President Trump was treated to a tour by the Crown Prince himself.
I’m going to go out on a limb here and say… this is what WINNING looks like:
I CANNOT think of a greater sign of respect of America: President Trump is given a golf cart ride tour of Al-Turaif from the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman.

Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman reportedly ushered President Trump away from the arrival ceremony in order to have a different sort of ceremony.
A COFFEE CEREMONY was held in a conference room — proving my premise that nothing of importance should ever happen until coffee.
First coffee… then economic matters — the correct order of the world as established by God, prioritized as it should be.
