The mainstream media has been working overtime to turn Donald Trump’s recent visit to Arlington National Cemetery into some sort of scandal.
He was there to mark the anniversary of the death of 13 U.S. service members killed during the Biden administration’s botched troop withdrawal from Afghanistan. Neither Joe Biden nor Kamala Harris bothered to show up.
When an anonymous source claimed that a member of Trump’s team had an altercation with a cemetery official, Trump critics saw it as the ammunition they needed to disparage his appearance at the site. After Harris joined in on the backlash, Trump decided to respond via social media.
According to the Daily Wire:
NPR was first to report that two members of Trump’s campaign “had a verbal and physical altercation … with an official at Arlington National Cemetery” as the former president attended a wreath-laying ceremony for 13 U.S. service members killed during the Afghanistan withdrawal.
“There was no conflict or ‘fighting’ at Arlington National Cemetery last week. It was a made up story by Comrade Kamala and her misinformation squad,” Trump posted on social media on Tuesday. “She made it all up to make up for the fact that she and Sleepy Joe have BLOOD ON THEIR HANDS for the INCOMPETENT AFGHANISTAN Withdrawal – THE MOST EMBARRASSING DAY IN U.S. HISTORY!!!”
“They should have been at Arlington, not on a beach or studying for a Debate. Thank you to my friends, the GREAT GOLD STAR FAMILIES, for revealing the TRUTH OF A BEAUTIFUL DAY OF HONOR. Could not have been a nicer moment-And there were no fights or problems, only in the heads of those that are destroying our Country!” he continued.
Plenty of social media users have defended President Trump’s visit to Arlington and shared harsh reactions to those who have attempted to sully his effort to honor the memory of those who died.

Responding to the continued attacks on Trump over Arlington (now from John McCain’s son) I remain baffled on @cnn that there seems to be more outrage over Trump granting a request from Gold Star families than Kamala Harris literally ignoring them. pic.twitter.com/SXsHAPXe64

President Trump also referenced the visit during an appearance in Pennsylvania last week, per The Hill:
“I wasn’t doing it for publicity. I get a lot of publicity,” the former president said. “I would like to get a lot less publicity. I’m the only guy that would hire a public relations agency to get less publicity.”
He also noted he was invited to visit the cemetery and take photos with the families of those killed during the withdrawal.
The Trump campaign shared a statement last week from family members of two of the service members that said, “The president and his team conducted themselves with nothing but the utmost respect and dignity for all of our service members, especially our beloved children.”
Here’s some additional coverage of the Trump campaign’s response:
