President Trump vowed to save New York City and said he won’t let “this Communist Lunatic” destroy the Big Apple, referring to mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani.
“As President of the United States, I’m not going to let this Communist Lunatic destroy New York. Rest assured, I hold all the levers, and have all the cards. I’ll save New York City, and make it ‘Hot’ and ‘Great’ again, just like I did with the Good Ol’ USA!” Trump said Wednesday morning.
More details from The Hill:
Trump’s post echoed threats he has made against California and other Democrat-led cities and states to withhold federal funding if those areas do not comply with his immigration orders or other aspects of his agenda.
The post also marks the latest attack from Trump, a New York City native, against Mamdani, who this week officially secured the Democratic nomination for November’s mayoral race.
ADVERTISEMENTTrump on Tuesday also threatened to investigate Mamdani’s immigration status and arrest him if he stood in the way of Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) raids in the city.
“We don’t need a communist in this country. But if we have one, I’m going to be watching over him very carefully on behalf of the nation,” Trump said.

“The President of the United States just threatened to have me arrested, stripped of my citizenship, put in a detention camp and deported. Not because I have broken any law but because I will refuse to let ICE terrorize our city,” Mamdani said.
“His statements don’t just represent an attack on our democracy but an attempt to send a message to every New Yorker who refuses to hide in the shadows: if you speak up, they will come for you,” he continued.
“We will not accept this intimidation,” he added.

Mediaite noted:
Trump is no stranger to criticism of Mamdani, who called himself “Donald Trump’s worst nightmare” during a mayoral debate.
Ahead of the primary, he threatened to withhold federal funds from New York City if Mamdani won the race. The president also, at a press conference on Tuesday in Florida, threatened to arrest the mayoral candidate if he followed through on his campaign promise to “kick the fascist ICE out of New York City.”
“We’ll have to arrest him,” Trump said — responding to a question about how he would respond if Mamdani made good on the threat to defy ICE.
In the same news conference, Trump also questioned Mamdani’s U.S. citizenship.
ADVERTISEMENT“A lot of people are saying he’s here illegally,” Trump said of Mamdani — who was born in Uganda in 1991, and became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 2018, 20 years after he and his family moved to New York.
In related news, Rep. Andy Ogles (R-TN) sent a letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi requesting an investigation into Mamdani to determine if he should lose his citizenship and be deported.
“Zohran ‘little muhammad’ Mamdani is an antisemitic, socialist, communist who will destroy the great City of New York. He needs to be DEPORTED. Which is why I am calling for him to be subject to denaturalization proceedings,” Ogles said.
