President Trump said on Truth Social that California will receive “large scale fines” for allowing a biological male to compete against females.

“A Biological Male competed in California Girls State Finals, WINNING BIG, despite the fact that they were warned by me not to do so. As Governor Gavin Newscum fully understands, large scale fines will be imposed!!!” Trump said.

AB Hernandez, a 16-year-old track and field athlete for Jurupa Valley High School, has been at the center of controversy that has included rule changes, federal investigations and previous financial threats to the state by the president. Hernandez won two medals at the California Interscholastic Federation Track and Field Championships in Clovis on Saturday, sharing the podium due to CIF’s decision ahead of the meet to allow more girls to compete and medal in events in which she competed.

Trump’s Truth Social post called targeted California for allowing a “biological male” to compete in the girls’ state finals despite his previous warning “not to do so.” While he did not mention Hernandez by name, she was the only openly transgender student-athlete who participated.

Trump previously warned California he would withhold federal funding if the state allowed biological males to compete in female sports.

“California, under the leadership of Radical Left Democrat Gavin Newscum, continues to ILLEGALLY allow ‘MEN TO PLAY IN WOMEN’S SPORTS.’ This week a transitioned Male athlete, at a major event, won ‘everything,’ and is now qualified to compete in the ‘State Finals’ next weekend. As a Male, he was a less than average competitor. As a Female, this transitioned person is practically unbeatable. THIS IS NOT FAIR, AND TOTALLY DEMEANING TO WOMEN AND GIRLS,” Trump said on Truth Social.

“Please be hereby advised that large scale Federal Funding will be held back, maybe permanently, if the Executive Order on this subject matter is not adhered to. The Governor, himself, said it is ‘UNFAIR.’ I will speak to him today to find out which way he wants to go??? In the meantime I am ordering local authorities, if necessary, to not allow the transitioned person to compete in the State Finals. This is a totally ridiculous situation!!!” he added.

Just days after President Donald Trump sent a warning to California about letting a male compete in girls’ track and field, the state allowed a trans athlete to take two state titles against female competitors.

AB Hernandez, a transgender student athlete for Jurupa Valley High School, took first place in the girls’ high jump and triple jump at the state championship on Saturday at Veteran’s Memorial Stadium in Clovis, California.

Hernandez also finished in second place in the long jump to Woodrow Wilson High School’s Loren Webster. Webster was the only female to finish ahead of Hernandez in any competition the trans athlete competed in this weekend.

Hernandez previously took first place in all three events at the preliminary round on Friday. Meanwhile, female competitors who finished behind Hernandez in this weekend’s events were all bumped up one spot and received the medal they would have earned had the trans athlete not competed.

The California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) made a series of sweeping rule changes in the days leading up to the event to ensure any females who finished behind a biological male would be appropriately rewarded a medal based on where they placed among female competitors.
