President Trump Says He Would Arrest Newsom If He Was Homan

Things are getting heated in California, literally!

As Los Angeles, California, is currently under attack by anti-ICE protesters, Border Czar Tom Homan has declared that state officials who allow rioters to continue to burn vehicles, assault officers, and destroy public buildings should be arrested.

In response to Homan’s remarks, Newsom challenged Homan and stated, “Arrest me.”

Now, President Trump has weighed in on the Governor of California.

Trump, in a statement to the media, shared if he was Homan he would arrest Newsom.

The Washington Examiner filled in the details:

President Donald Trump expressed support for Tom Homan to arrest Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) after the Democratic governor dared the border czar to arrest him after the Trump administration called in the National Guard to quell protests in Los Angeles.

“I would do it,” Trump said about whether Homan should arrest Newsom, as he returned to the White House early afternoon on Monday.

“He’s done a terrible job,” Trump said about the California governor. “I like Gavin Newsom. He’s a nice guy, but he’s grossly incompetent. Everybody knows. All you have to do is look at the little railroad he’s building. It’s about 100 times over budget.”

Newsom has threatened to file a lawsuit against the Trump administration after the White House authorized the National Guard to handle riots, which at times were violent, against Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Los Angeles over the weekend.

“The people that are causing the problem are professional agitators,” Trump told reporters Monday. “They’re insurrectionists, they’re bad people. They should be in jail.”

A report from NBC News previously claimed Homan threatened that state and local leaders who interfered with the federal effort to quell the protests could be arrested, prompting Newsom to taunt him.

Per NBC News:

California Gov. Gavin Newsom pushed back against threats of arrest by Trump administration officials, remaining defiant as he oversees clashes between law enforcement agents and protesters in response to immigration raids across Los Angeles while also managing an ongoing power struggle with the federal government.

Trump’s “border czar,” Tom Homan, warned Saturday that immigration operations and the presence of federal personnel would continue in the city despite criticism from Democratic leaders who’ve warned it could further escalate protests. He threatened arrest for anyone who obstructs the immigration enforcement effort, including Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass — though he acknowledged that neither yet had “crossed the line.”

“I’ll say about anybody,” Homan said. “You cross that line, it’s a felony to knowingly harbor and conceal an illegal alien. It’s a felony to impede law enforcement doing their job.”

In an interview for MSNBC with NBC News’ Jacob Soboroff, Newsom called Homan’s bluff, urging him to “just get it over with” and move ahead with the arrest.

“He’s a tough guy. Why doesn’t he do that? He knows where to find me,” Newsom said. “That kind of bloviating is exhausting. So, Tom, arrest me. Let’s go.”
