REPORT: Joe Biden Failed to Recognize Longtime Friend & Famous Actor At Pre-Election Fundraiser

We all know that Joe Biden wasn’t completely there during his presidency (perhaps both figuratively and literally.)

But, as more details about the extent of his cognitive decline are revealed, it gets even more shocking.

Apparently, Joe Biden was so far gone at his big fundraiser headlined by famous celebrities and Barack Obama that he failed to recognize actor George Clooney, whom he has known for years.

According to a new book by Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson, George Clooney was “shaken to his core” following the awkward encounter.

George Clooney says Joe Biden didn’t recognize him.

That’s the opening gut punch in Original Sin, a new book by Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson, which claims the President looked “severely diminished” at a June 2024 fundraiser—taking tiny steps, trailing off mid-speech, and needing Obama to step in.

Clooney later called on Biden to drop out.

Behind closed doors, aides reportedly debated using a wheelchair if he ran again.

Biden’s team denies wrongdoing but hasn’t refuted the details.

The New Yorker published an excerpt from the book that details Clooney’s reaction to Biden not recognizing him:

Biden hobbled out from around the corner. Clooney knew that the President had just arrived from the G-7 leaders’ summit in Apulia, Italy, that morning and might be tired, but, holy shit, he wasn’t expecting this.

The President appeared severely diminished, as if he’d aged a decade since Clooney last saw him, in December, 2022. He was taking tiny steps, and an aide seemed to be guiding him by the arm.

“It was like watching someone who was not alive,” a Hollywood V.I.P. recalled. “It was startling. And we all looked at each other. It was so awful.”

“Thank you for being here,” the President said to guests as he shuffled past them. “Thank you for being here.” Clooney felt a knot form in his stomach as the President approached him. Biden looked at him. “Thank you for being here,” he said. “Thank you for being here.”

“You know George,” the assisting aide told the President, gently reminding him who was in front of him. “Yeah, yeah,” the President said to one of the most recognizable men in the world, the host of this lucrative fund-raiser. “Thank you for being here.”

“Hi, Mr. President,” Clooney said.

“How are ya?” the President replied.

“How was your trip?” Clooney asked.

“It was fine,” the President said.

It seemed clear that the President had not recognized Clooney.

“It was not O.K.,” recalled the Hollywood V.I.P. who had witnessed this moment. “That thing, the moment where you recognize someone you know—especially a famous person who’s doing a fucking fund-raiser for you—it was delayed. It was uncomfortable.”

“George Clooney,” the aide clarified for the President.

“Oh, yeah!” Biden said. “Hi, George!”

Clooney was shaken to his core. The President hadn’t recognized him, a man he had known for years. Clooney had expressed concern about Biden’s health before—a White House aide had told him a few months before that they were working on getting the President to take longer steps when he walked—but obviously the problem went far beyond his gait. This was much graver.

This was the President of the United States?

A few weeks after hosting this fundraiser, George Clooney called on Joe Biden to drop out of the race.

The New York Post noted:

Fewer than four weeks later, Clooney — who co-hosted the event that ended up raising some $30 million — publicly called for the then-commander-in-chief to drop out of the race.

In a scathing July 10 New York Times op-ed, Clooney had declared that Biden “cannot win” the election following his catastrophic June 27, 2024, debate performance against Donald Trump.

“It’s devastating to say it, but the Joe Biden I was with three weeks ago at the fundraiser was not the Joe ‘big F-ing deal’ Biden of 2010,” Clooney wrote at the time.

“He wasn’t even the Joe Biden of 2020. He was the same man we all witnessed at the debate.”

Clooney — a staunch Democrat — then bluntly declared: “We are not going to win in November with this president.”

Thompson and Tapper reported that Clooney wrote the op-ed at his home in the South of France and passed it to Biden adviser Steve Ricchetti via movie producer Jeffrey Katzenberg.

“Ricchetti read it and was furious,” the authors write. “Internally, he threatened to shut Clooney down—some of his colleagues thought he sounded like a Mob boss.”

Katzenberg, who had asked Clooney to co-host the fundraiser, objected to the actor’s take that Biden had been “the same man we all witnessed at the debate” at the donor event two weeks earlier.

“It’s not fair, what you’re saying, Katzenberg said,” according to Thompson and Tapper. “You’re right, it’s not fair, Clooney agreed. Aging was awful. It really wasn’t fair. But, Clooney said, it’s accurate.”

Now, Biden was definitely in rapid mental decline by the time he called it quits.

However, to give Biden the benefit of the doubt, it’s not like Clooney is aging very well…

Still, this is a serious issue.

Joe Biden was still the sitting president, technically-speaking, at the time of this fundraiser.

If he wasn’t mentally well enough to run the country then who was calling the shots?
