SecDef Pete Hegseth Sets the Record Straight On Alleged War Plan Leak

If you’ve been on the internet today, you’ve probably heard about the allegations stemming from far-left publication The Atlantic‘s editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg.

Goldberg, a staunch anti-Trump journalist, claims that he was accidentally added to a group chat with top Trump administration officials who were discussing top-secret military plans.

According to Goldberg, National Security Adviser Mike Waltz invited him, seemingly by accident, to a group chat on Signal, which included Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Vice President JD Vance.

Apparently, Goldberg joined the chat in the middle of a conversation about a military operation against the Iran-backed Houthis. In his so-called report, Goldberg shared screenshots from that alleged group chat.

Here are those alleged screenshots:

We reported on the full “scandal” here:

Vance, Hegseth Caught Up In Huge National Security Text Message Scandal?

If this is true, then it poses a huge security risk, that's for sure.

Whoever was responsible for the leak should be held accountable, and we should definitely get to the bottom of what happened.

However, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth has just shot back against the allegations.

In a fiery response, Hegseth attacked the credibility of Goldberg and denied that anyone was texting war plans.

Watch Hegseth's full response for yourself here:

For those who prefer to read, here's a transcript:

Reporter:
Your information about war plans against the Houthis in Yemen was shared with a journalist in the Atlantic. Were those details classified?

Sec. Hegseth:
You're talking about a deceitful and highly discredited so-called journalist who's made a profession of peddling hoaxes time and time again, including the hoaxes of Russia, Russia, Russia, the "fine people on both sides" hoax, and the "Suckers and Losers" hoax. This is the guy that peddles in garbage. This is what he does.

I would love to comment on the Houthi campaign because of the skill and courage of our troops. I've monitored it very closely from the beginning. We've been managing four years of deferred maintenance under the Trump administration.

Our troops and sailors were getting shot at as targets. Our ships couldn't sail through. And when they did shoot back, it was purely defensively or at shacks in Yemen.

President Trump said, "No more. We will reestablish deterrence, open freedom of navigation, and ultimately decimate the Houthis," which is exactly what we're doing as we speak from the beginning, overwhelmingly.

Reporter:
Why were those details shared on Signal? And how did you learn that a journalist was privy to the targets, the types of weapons used, and the timing?

Sec. Hegseth:
I've heard that was characterized. Nobody was texting war plans, and that's all I have to say about that. Alright, I appreciate it. That's it.

Now, Hegseth's denial of the allegations could be a lie.

But, given Goldberg's track record as a journalist, which included pushing the Russia collusion narrative and multiple other hoaxes about President Trump, I'm inclined to believe Hegseth.

It sounds to me like this was nothing more than just a wild, made-up hit piece. Wouldn't be the first, and probably won't be the last in these next four years.

In case you're wondering, President Trump also responded to the allegations earlier, saying he doesn't know anything about it.

Watch what President Trump had to say about it here:

Here's a transcript:

Reporter: Your reaction to the story in the Atlantic that said that some of your top cabinet officials and aides had been discussing very sensitive material through Signal and included an Atlantic reporter-- what is your response to that and are you going to take any action?

Trump: I don't know anything about it. I'm not a big fan of the Atlantic. To me, it's a magazine that's going out of business. I think it's not much of a magazine, but I know nothing about it. You're saying that they had what?

Reporter: They were using Signal to coordinate on sensitive materials... The Houthis.

Trump: The Houthis? You mean the attack on the Houthis? Well, it couldn't have been very effective because the attack was very effective, I can tell you that. I don't know anything about it. You're telling me about it for the first time.

What do you think? Who do you believe?
