“Due to a helicopter crash in the Hudson River, in the vicinity of the West Side Highway and Spring Street, expect emergency vehicles and traffic delays in the surrounding areas,” NYPD announced.

Updated reports confirmed that at least three people died, and six were onboard the aircraft.

According to ABC News, all six people onboard the aircraft passed away in the crash.

ABC News reports:

All six people on board were killed when a helicopter plunged into the Hudson River by Lower Manhattan in New York City on Thursday afternoon, law enforcement sources told ABC News.

The helicopter was carrying a pilot, two adults and three children, according to law enforcement sources. The family members were tourists from Spain, sources said.

The helicopter was in the air for about 12 minutes before the crash. Video showed the chopper plunging into the water without a tail rotor or a main rotor blade.

Dani Horbiack told ABC News she watched the helicopter "fall out of the sky" from her apartment window.

"I heard five or six loud noises that sounded almost like gunshots in the sky and saw pieces fall off, then watched it fall into the river," Horbiack said.

Per CBS News:

The incident happened at roughly 3:15 p.m. Thursday near Jersey City, not far from River Drive South and Newport Parkway, near the Water's Soul sculpture.

Three adults and three children were on board, according to the NYPD. All of the bodies have been recovered, a person familiar with the situation told CBS News.

Emergency responders were gathering on both sides of the river. On the Manhattan side, the NYPD was mobilizing on the West Side Highway and Spring Street. New York City Mayor Eric Adams was on the scene.

The helicopter involved was a Bell 206, according to the FAA. It took off from Lower Manhattan, according to the New York City's mayor's office. The FAA and NTSB are investigating the crash.

The helicopter apparently came apart in mid-air and came plummeting down. Debris could be seen flying from the helicopter as it plunged into the river.
