Although homeland security concerns have persisted for years amid allegations about Rep. Eric Swalwell’s relationship with a Chinese spy, the mainstream media has generally given the California Democrat a pass.
But during a recent interview, radio host Charlamagne tha God actually pressed Swalwell, albeit gently, on the controversy.
Of course, the lawmaker’s response didn’t exactly put the matter to rest.

Podcaster and radio host Charlamagne tha God, real name Lenard McKelvey, casually brought up the spy scandal during an interview on “The Breakfast Club,” with Swalwell casually brushing off the claims.
“Did the Chinese spy scandal hurt your credibility, or did Republicans just weaponize a nothing-burger, so to speak?” Charlamagne asked nonchalantly.
ADVERTISEMENTSwalwell quickly appealed to authority over the question and blamed disinformation.
“You know, the fact that the FBI and the House Ethics Committee said it was bulls**t. Like, I would hope that would be enough, but, like, in a disinformation society, like, I recognize that it’s everyone on the right’s favorite meme.”
Swalwell said it is an “honor” to have Republicans take shots at his character since, according to his wife, “the second they’re not going after you, you’re not effective.”
“I wear it as a badge of honor that these guys would want to lie about me all the time because I think it means that I’m landing punches politically on them that sting,” the congressman stated.
The interview was an anomaly among establishment media figures, but social media critics have never let Swalwell off the hook:

To his credit, Charlamagne also pushed Swalwell on a number of other issues, including Joe Biden’s cognitive decline.
According to the New York Post:
“I just finished reading the ‘Original Sin,’” Charlamagne noted, referring to the new book by CNN’s Jake Tapper and Axios’ Alex Thompson that outlines the president’s alleged mental decline in office and cover-up.
“So when I hear you talk, I’m like, well, what was the Democrats’ excuse when they chose to be accomplices in the cover-up of Biden’s physical and mental decline? It’s the same thing. Y’all got on television and pretended to act like everything was fine, knowing behind the scenes he was not the one.”
ADVERTISEMENT“I don’t think many of us were behind the scenes, to be honest,” Swalwell said. “I didn’t spend much time with President Biden behind the scenes.”
Charlamagne declared he spent zero time with Biden whatsoever, but nonetheless saw there were issues.
“You have your two eyes. I got it. I got it,” Swalwell answered, going on to argue there is a fundamental difference between how Biden and Trump acted in office.
Later, Swalwell argued that the Democrats need to be the party of the future, “because the past was rejected last November.”
Charlamagne offered a barbed response.
“Why should we ever trust the Democratic Party after they lied to us [for] so long about President Biden?” the host asked. “And I’m big on this, because I just read the ‘Original Sin’ and I’m just like… I think that Democrats have tried every strategy except for two things, honesty and courage.”
