Former Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas became one of the Biden administration’s most divisive figures due to his integral role in the open-borders policies that flooded the U.S. with illegal immigrants over the past four years.
Now the President Donald Trump is back in office and the issue is being addressed, Mayorkas is clearly not eager to answer any questions about his own record.
That became clear during a recent exchange with a reporter, as the Daily Wire reported:
“I just wanted to ask you how it feels to see —” Rosas had not even gotten his first question out before Mayorkas waved him off, saying, “Not right now.”
“— that the United States has a secure border now that President Trump is in office, as opposed to when you were Secretary of Homeland Security,” Rosas finished, and Mayorkas kept walking.
Mayorkas kept his mouth shut as Rosas followed up by asking whether he had “any regrets” with regard to allowing the border to remain open, especially given the new data that says under Trump’s DHS, “border crossings are down 95%.”
“Do you regret allowing Tren de Aragua to gain a foothold in the United States?” Rosas asked, but again, Mayorkas remained silent. “Do you have anything to say, sir, about your time as Homeland Security Secretary? facilitating an open border?”
The former DHS chief boarded an escalator, but Rosas met him at the bottom with another question: “I mean, it was a big issue, sir, that’s one of the reasons why President Trump won re-election. You don’t have anything to say about it?”
Mayorkas has been the driving force behind a number of controversial statements and policies of the Biden administration.

Republican lawmakers took steps to condemn, if not punish, Mayorkas’ actions during his chaotic term at the helm of the DHS, as the Washington Times reported in November:
Republican staffers on Capitol Hill are discussing a second impeachment of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to block him from holding office again, The Washington Times has learned.
Staffers said their conversation hadn’t reached the level of lawmakers, but they acknowledged an appetite for some gesture to demand accountability for what Republicans consider an immigration catastrophe Mr. Mayorkas has overseen for nearly four years.
“Staff people are talking about it among themselves,” said a longtime Republican aide who is active on immigration issues. “People are pissed. Every time you think you’ve seen the most ridiculous possible thing his department has done, they manage to top it.”
