WATCH: Minnesota Somali Leaders Announce Surprise Endorsement

On Saturday, a group of Somali community leaders in Minnesota announced their presidential endorsement.

The group endorsed President Trump.

“Our conditions are horrible, we can’t afford anything. As working class and middle class people. Now please understand this, we love our brothers and sisters who are Democrats, but you left us,” one of the community leaders said.

“And because the left left us, join the right, vote for Trump 2024,” he added.

“Joe Biden is asleep at the wheel, let’s replace him. Let’s have Kamala come in. That is a travesty. How is that happening in the United States of America,” another community leader said.

“All these people in this room are former Democrats. We were diehard supporters. Republicans had no opportunity, no room to come and talk to us because we were loyal to the Democratic Party. But that party is no longer loyal to us and no longer loyal to this country,” he added.

“I fundamentally believe he [Trump] is the safest bet for our country moving forward,” he added.

“We’re here gathered today with community leaders, business leaders and youth leaders from the Somali community and from the Muslim community in Minnesota to fully support and endorse President Trump,” another community leader said.

“Some of the key issues of the community are the global wars, family values and education, economic issues, and inflation,” he added.

“With all these and a number of other issues, the community came together and is fully standing behind President Donald J. Trump,” he noted.

Per RedState:

It’s not clear how big an impact that will make in Minnesota or the election as a whole. As of this writing, it’s a bit of a stretch to say Minnesota is in play; the RealClearPolitics average of the state has Kamala Harris holding a 4.8 percent lead, in a state that last sent its electoral votes to a Republican in 1972. And, while these endorsements are meaningful and no doubt heartfelt, this is the same community that has sent Ilhan Omar to Congress three times running.

But it may be a part of a bigger picture. Muslims, for the most part, are very conservative on social issues; transgender activism, gender theory, climate change, and other sacred cows of today’s Democratic party don’t sit well with many Muslims. But then, the United States’ continued support for Israel is a contentious issue with many in the Muslim community as well.

It’s an interesting needle that the GOP might need to thread over time.
