White House Officially Announces “Grand Military Parade” On June 14th

The White House officially announced a military parade in Washington D.C. to commemorate the U.S. Army’s 250th Anniversary.

The “Grand Military Parade” will be June 14th, coinciding with President Trump’s 79th birthday.

“President Trump will be joined by veterans, active duty troops, wounded warriors, Gold Star families and patriotic Americans from across the country,” White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said.

Tickets are now available for the Army’s 250th anniversary “Grand Military Parade” on June 14, when 6,700 soldiers and dozens of tanks and war machines will roll through D.C.

D.C.’s first military parade since the Gulf War will end with Army parachuters touching down to present President Trump with an American flag on his 79th birthday, officials told reporters Wednesday at the Pentagon.

From the Revolutionary War to the world wars and beyond, units will march dressed in period attire. It will run on Constitution from 23rd Street to 15th Street.

The first Abrams battle tanks destined for D.C. were loaded onto trains in Texas’ Fort Cavazos on Wednesday.

There will be 28 Abrams tanks taking part in the evening parade. Metal plates will be laid down on the street to prevent damage from the 68-ton machines.

Joining in are 28 Bradley fighting vehicles and Stryker armored vehicles, four Paladin howitzers, towed artillery, and multiple infantry squad vehicles, according to Army spokesperson Steve Warren.

“Join us on June 14th for the U.S. Army’s 250th Anniversary Grand Military Parade on the National Mall! Hosted by President Donald Trump, this historic celebration honors our brave soldiers,” The White House stated.

ABC News reports:

Trump had sought a military parade in his first term, but the effort was scrapped after costs topped $90 million.

The final cost of this year’s event is unknown. While the Army is estimated to spend up to $45 million to deploy troops and equipment, the celebration is expected to require considerable security on par with a large-scale event like the Super Bowl or presidential inauguration.

Though Army officials said there are no plans for any of the eight bands participating in the parade to sing “happy birthday” to Trump, the Golden Knights will parachute onto the White House Ellipse and offer the president a folded American flag. After the parade, Trump will also administer the constitutional oath to 250 Army enlistees.

“It is a lot of money, but I think that amount of money is dwarfed by 250 years of service and sacrifice that American soldiers have given this country,” Army spokesman Steve Warren said.

“We’re looking at this as an opportunity to really strengthen the connection between America and her Army,” he added. “So, yeah, it’s a lot of money, but it pales in comparison to what we’re selling.”

The event isn’t the first military parade in Washington, though it is likely to be the biggest. The U.S. military under President George H.W. Bush held a victory parade in June 1991 following the Persian Gulf War.
