The Israel Defense Forces said one of its fighter jets in Lebanon killed a senior Hamas commander who played a key role in launching terrorist attacks against Israel.
The Israeli airstrike targeting Hamas terrorists and their allies in Lebanon killed Hadi Mustafa Wednesday morning while he was traveling in a vehicle near the Rashidieh camp, Lebanon’s second-largest Palestinian refugee camp. Mustafa was "significant in directing terror squads and promoting attacks against Israel," the Jerusalem Post reported.
Hamas has since confirmed Mustafa’s death, noting the organization lost a senior official of its Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades in Lebanon. A Syrian man who was on his motorcycle near Mustafa’s vehicle was reportedly also killed.
The airstrike in Lebanon came a day after Hezbollah launched over 100 rockets from Lebanon into northern Israel. The IDF has conducted military operations in Lebanon since Hezbollah fired rockets and artillery shells at Israel a day after Hamas’s Oct. 7 invasion, targeting Hezbollah as well as Hamas units operating out of the Palestinian refugee camps.
Israel in January killed a Hamas deputy leader in a drone strike on a Hamas office in Beirut.
