Secret Service director Kimberly Cheatle delivered a disastrous congressional testimony on Monday, repeatedly refusing to answer basic questions about the agency's failures ahead of the assassination attempt on former president Donald Trump.
Nine days after the would-be assassin shot Trump in the ear during a rally in Pennsylvania, Cheatle said she could not discuss routine details about the incident, citing an ongoing investigation.
"Director Cheatle, yes or no, was there ever a moment where the Secret Service actually considered pausing the rally?" Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi (D., Ill.) asked. "The Secret Service would have paused the rally had they known there was an actual threat," Cheatle responded.
"So the answer is no, correct?" Krishnamoorthi continued. "I can speak to you in generalities," Cheatle said.
The Washington Free Beacon compiled that moment and other lowlights from the hearing, during which Cheatle refused to resign. Lawmakers from both parties have called on her to do so.
