Rep. Ilhan Omar (D., Minn.) on Thursday lashed out at a reporter who asked about her fellow Democratic lawmakers' trips to El Salvador to advocate for deported illegal immigrant Kilmar Abrego Garcia, telling the reporter to "fuck off" twice before an aide cut off the exchange.
"Do you think more of your Democratic colleagues should be traveling to El Salvador to advocate on behalf of Abrego Garcia?" Daily Caller reporter Myles Morell asked Omar as the "Squad" member and her aides were walking outside the Capitol.
"I think you should fuck off," Omar responded.
"I'm sorry, what, congresswoman?" Morell asked.
"You should fuck off," Omar repeated.
"Who should?" the reporter asked.
"You," Omar said.
"Why me?" Morell asked, prompting an Omar aide to step in and say, "We're not taking any questions right now."
Today I tried to ask @Ilhan a question on behalf of The @DailyCaller News Foundation and she told me to "F**k off" twice.
That was very unprofessional of her. Our elected officials should not be acting this way. pic.twitter.com/8wPu566ZTt

The congresswoman's outburst comes after five Democrats—Sen. Chris Van Hollen (Md.) and Reps. Yassamin Ansari (Ariz.), Maxine Dexter (Ore.), Maxwell Frost (Fla.), and Robert Garcia (Calif.)—traveled to El Salvador to advocate for Garcia, an illegal immigrant accused of MS-13 gang ties and domestic violence. President Donald Trump's administration in March deported Garcia to a Salvadoran prison as part of its nationwide crackdown on illegal immigration and gang violence.
Omar has faced scrutiny on a wide-range of issues over the years, particularly for her anti-Semitism.
In the aftermath of Hamas's Oct. 7, 2023, terrorist attack—which left more than 1,200 Israelis dead and hundreds taken hostage—Omar focused her ire not on the terrorists but on the Jewish state. She has accused Israel of committing genocide and claimed U.S. support for Israel is "all about the Benjamins."
Omar, who became a U.S. citizen in 2000 after fleeing war-torn Somalia, has also faced backlash over her stance on illegal immigration. Omar hosted "free workshops for Somalians, who are in our country illegally, on how to evade ICE and deportation," Rep. Brandon Gill (R., Texas) said in February.
