The West Against the CRINK — China, Russia, Iran and North Korea. Manlio Dinucci

In “The Secret History of the War in Ukraine,” the New York Times reconstructs in significant detail that the United States during the Biden Administration not only supplied Ukraine with huge amounts of armaments to the tune of about $70 billion, but also planned and directed Ukrainian military operations against Russia from the headquarters of the U.S. Army Europe in Wiesbaden, Germany. That the war was planned and directed by the US and NATO under its command, we have argued from the start on Grandangolo based on precise facts. On the same basis, we warned against the easy optimism that the Trump Administration would quickly end the war with a direct agreement between Presidents Trump and Putin and, in contrast to the European Allies, withdraw from NATO operations against Russia or even from NATO itself.

What the Trump Administration’s position is was made clear by Secretary of State Marco Rubio at the NATO foreign Ministers’ meeting in Brussels on “building a stronger, more shared and more lethal NATO”. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said:

“The United States is as active in NATO as it has ever been. And some of the hysteria and hyperbole I see in the global media about NATO is unwarranted. President Trump has made clear his support for NATO. We will stay in NATO, but we want NATO to be stronger. The events of recent years – a major land war in the heart of Europe – remind us that hard power is still needed as a deterrent. So, we want to come away from these meetings with the knowledge that every member is committed and delivering on its promise to spend 5% of GDP on its military. Even the US will have to increase its percentage. Because if the threat is as serious as I believe it is, and as the members of this Alliance believe it to be, then that threat must be met with a full and real commitment.

President Trump is not opposed to NATO. He is against a NATO that is incapable of meeting its treaty obligations to each and every one of its members. It is a hard but fundamental truth that must be spoken now in order to build a NATO capable of defending the territories of our nations. The United States will also have to increase its share. Because if the threats are really as serious as I believe and as the members of this Alliance believe, then this threat must be met with full and real commitment.

President Trump is not against NATO. He is against a NATO that has not the capacity to fulfil its treaty obligations to each member State. It is a hard but fundamental truth that must be spoken now to build a NATO that has the capacity to defend the territories of our nation States and deter any aggressive action against one of us.”

The meeting in Brussels was also attended by Ukraine’s foreign minister, to whom NATO foreign ministers, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, assured continuing military support. Completely ignored was the fact, denounced by Moscow, that Kiev continues to attack Russian energy infrastructure in violation of the agreement with Trump, which Russia instead honours by not targeting Ukrainian energy infrastructure.

While continuing to postpone the promised meeting with President Putin, President Trump is planning to visit the Middle East, where the US is strengthening its military presence by preparing in coordination with Israel to attack Iran, a BRICS country with which Russia is also about to finalize a strategic agreement.

As to the West’s strategy, the NATO Secretary General told the foreign Ministers’ meeting, attended by the US Secretary of State: Russia is our long-term threat, but we also have growing problems with China, North Korea, and Iran. These four countries are increasingly interconnected and interrelated.

The topic is covered in detail by a group of analysts who explain in the Wall Street Journal “how China, Russia, Iran and North Korea have joined forces in a new axis, the CRINK, that is working against America to challenge Western sanctions and undermine US interests.”
