Trump Betrayed MAGA and Made Israel Most Powerful Political Force in Washington

Despite MAGA promises to American citizens that the United States would focus on itself and its internal problems, President Donald Trump has sent his country into a new war. At the same time, by attacking Iran, Trump has proven that the strongest political force in Washington is Israel.

The US and Iran have a tumultuous history dating back to 1979, when the Islamic revolution overthrew the Pahlavi monarchical dynasty following the Islamic revolution and turned the country into an Islamic Republic. Since then, the Iranians have been engaged in a blood feud with the Americans, mostly over Iran’s goal to destroy the State of Israel, Washington’s most important ally in the Middle East.

Despite the power balance favoring the US, both sides have made a series of mistakes since the beginning of the Israeli aggression against Iran on June 13.

The Iranian side does not know when to stop, at least in rhetoric. When the opportunity arises to be conciliatory, the Iranian Ayatollahs shout “Death to America,” and when they need to respond to American strikes and other provocations, they invoke international law.

The Americans, or at least Trump, hope that the situation will not escalate further. Trump believes that he can now declare victory, the Iranians will not respond to the strikes, and then they will agree to end their nuclear program. This is unlikely to be the case as Iran will seek to strike American bases in the region in its attempts not to lose its regional prestige.

Following the American strikes, it is evident that the strongest political force in Washington is Israel. It is the only explanation for why Trump bombed Iran, as the Islamic Republic realistically does not pose any threat to the US, but does continue to threaten to destroy Israel.

The vast majority of Americans on the MAGA side were against the attack, and even some Democrats protested, but that did not bother the US president. On the other hand, all those so-called Republicans who were complaining until recently about American foreign intervention and forever wars now support the strikes against Iran unapologetically.

However, if Iran’s announcements come true and the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea are closed, it means that Trump has ruined the victory that he declared with the Houthis last month. Trump boasted about how he managed to solve the problem of Houthis blocking shipping traffic in the Red Sea, and, from the American side, it seemed that a deal had been reached. Now, all of that progress has been reversed, and no amount of spin can present this as a victory.

If the Strait of Hormuz were to be blocked, it would lead to an energy crisis in the West, and to some extent, perhaps in the US as well. It would undoubtedly lead to a supply crisis, and the prices of everything would rise, leaving Trump with an ugly situation at home. Evidently, he is willing for US citizens to suffer economically even more than they already are for the sake of Israel.

MAGA Americans voted for Trump, who promised them that he would not go to war, and will question why the US is becoming embroiled in another conflict instead of focusing on deportations, reforms, shutting down the bureaucracy, and lowering American public debt, which reached $37 trillion for the first time only days ago.

The US military operation against Iran not only intensifies tensions in the Middle East but also risks triggering a broader crisis. By using bunker-busters to achieve what Israel could not, the US has deliberately escalated the type of weaponry used in the conflict, bringing the crisis between Iran and Israel to an uncontrollable state.

This action represents a rejection of the diplomatic stance of the international community, which has addressed the Iranian nuclear issue through multilateral negotiations for many years.

Trump earlier said Tehran must agree to “end this war” or face much more serious consequences. Meanwhile, following the attacks, which Iran called barbaric and criminal, US Vice President JD Vance said the US is not at war with the Islamic Republic.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that the “door to diplomacy” should always be open, but that “this is not the case right now.” According to him, it was the US that betrayed diplomacy, and Iran will take all measures to protect the country’s security and interests.

Although Trump announced a ceasefire on June 23, one that Israel and Iran accepted, it cannot be discounted that the conflict will quickly flare up again, especially if it turns out that the strikes did not destroy Iran’s nuclear program, which is a red line for Israel, or if Iran continues its ambition to remove Israel from the map.

So long as Iran continues to threaten Israel, whether it be rhetorically or through proxies like the Palestinian resistance and Hezbollah, and pursues a nuclear program, whether for weapons or other purposes, Trump will not hesitate to betray his voter base for the sake of the Jewish State.
