AUSTIN PETERSEN: The incoherence of Harris' campaign extends to Clinton and Obama

A real gut punch for Harris came recently from none other than Barack Obama, who has positioned himself as the captain of the Democrats’ sinking ship—except he’s not exactly steering it to safety.

Kamala Harris’ campaign is starting to look like a submersible piloted by an off brand XBox controller headed for an ill-fated trip to the Titanic. Every step she takes down the campaign trail feels like another meter deeper into the abyss. I doubt even James Cameron could pull her out of this one.

Harris arrived late to her recent interview with Fox News’ Bret Baier and left early, with her team desperately signaling to wrap up the questions before things got too difficult. The whole thing reeked of panic, like the crew of the sub realizing they’ve got dead weight they can’t drop. Baier recounted later that he’d never seen staffers so frantic to end an interview. Maybe some are regretting ditching the tried and true (and elected!) USS Biden in favor of Harris’ leaky unterseeboot?

More on that later.

Harris’ inability to answer basic questions on immigration, the flash of fear on her face when asked about Biden’s cognitive state was glaring, and her awkward deflections to Trump at every chance only made things worse. She’s like the deluded, billionaire sub captain ignoring critical warnings. Harris and her team seem to think they can sail right through this without facing the political realities of Trump’s lead in critical battleground states. Harris is in over her head, and the Baier interview proved it.

Meanwhile, Trump has no reason to subject himself to the mainstream media’s hostile questioning. While the left screams that his decision to pull out of NBC and CNBC interviews is bizarre, it’s really a sign of strength. Trump doesn’t need to play along with networks that twist the narrative. He’s letting the Democrats do the heavy lifting for him, as Harris and her team implode under their own incompetence. Every misstep, every fumbled interview, every desperate appeal from Clinton and Obama only serves to deepen the pressure on Harris. Trump’s internals must be telling him to sit back and let Harris continue to slide ever deeper into the black.

A real gut punch for Harris came recently from none other than Barack Obama, who has positioned himself as the captain of the Democrats’ sinking ship—except he’s not exactly steering it to safety. Instead, he’s more like the infamous captain of the Costa Concordia, abandoning ship while chaos ensues. Obama condescendingly told Black men that the reason they’re not supporting Kamala Harris is because they’re uncomfortable with a woman in power. It’s classic Obama: instead of addressing real concerns about her record, he lectures voters and tells them to get in line, all while distancing himself from the disaster he helped create. It’s like in his 2011 speech to the Congressional Black Caucus when he told them to “stop complaining, stop grumbling, stop crying.” Think he’d talk like that to AIPAC? Just like Captain Schettino of the Concordia, Obama is scrambling to save his own legacy after the role he played in making Biden walk the plank.

Even Biden, when he’s not doddering through his usual public appearances, sees the writing on the wall. Caught at a funeral telling Obama that Harris is “not as strong as me,” Biden admitted what the entire party knows but won’t say out loud: Kamala Harris is a liability. Obama’s weak reassurances that “we have time” sound a lot like the doomed operators of the Titan trying to calm the passengers as the submersible’s structure buckled under the weight of the deep. And just like the Titan’s implosion, Harris’ campaign is going down fast.

The Democrats’ strategy to salvage this sinking wreck is as desperate as it is ineffective. Bill Clinton, in a clumsy attempt to defend Harris’ record as the so-called “border czar,” ended up handing Trump a perfect campaign ad. Clinton admitted that Laken Riley, a young woman killed by an illegal immigrant, would still be alive if the suspect had been properly vetted. Instead of defending Harris, Clinton reinforced the truth: her immigration policies are a disaster. Maybe Bill Clinton is having his Hunt for Red October moment— signaling he’s ready to defect? Maybe his latest slip on immigration is just his way of telling us he’s ready to cross over. Hey Bill, send up a signal flare when it’s time. Trump’s campaign has women who are actual women. They might be a little too old for you, though and there’s no private plane.

What we’re witnessing is a slow-motion implosion of a campaign that was doomed from the start. Harris’ tenure as vice president, particularly her disastrous handling of the border, is the gaping flaw in the Democrats’ hull. She had one job, and it was Border Czar. Over 10 million illegal immigrants have flooded into the country under her watch, and the Democrats want us to believe that this is somehow Trump’s fault. Codswallop!

Harris’ campaign is in free fall, sinking deeper and deeper as the pressure builds. Black men, who Obama so condescendingly scolded, aren’t flocking to support her because they see the truth: she’s weak, unqualified, and unwilling to face the consequences of her own failures. They don’t want to pay for prisoners' gender transition surgery. The Democrats can’t seem to figure out how to navigate this mess, so they’re trying to guilt-trip voters into supporting a candidate who’s clearly not up for the job. What’s that song I hear coming from their campaign offices? Nearer my God to Thee?

Even their “White Dudes for Harris” campaign was a laughable last-ditch effort to scrape together support in the most patronizing way possible. It was about as genuine as the lust shown by the gay sailor dancer boys in South Pacific singing “There is Nothing Like A Dame!” They can’t even get their most prominent white male supporter, Bill Clinton, to stay on message. Clinton’s accidental confession about the border only further highlights the disarray within the party. Meanwhile Tim Walz has become some kind of Chris Farley character on the campaign, flapping his arms like wings and squawking into microphones.

The Democrats are rapidly approaching crush depth. Harris is trailing Trump in key swing states, and no amount of Obama’s finger-wagging or Clinton’s bungling can change that. The Democrats built this campaign on identity politics, bullying, sexism, and hollow platitudes, thinking they could avoid real scrutiny. But Harris’ decision to do a media tour looks like it was the wrong move. How bad is it now that Democrats like Obama are now kicking themselves, and likely wondering if they can get crazy old Captain Ahab Biden back to hunt the great white Trump?
