Jamie Wallis, the former Conservative Member of Parliament for Bridgend, has pleaded guilty to harassing an ex-wife via voice notes and messages sent earlier this year. The admission was made at Cardiff Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.

Wallis, a biological male who now uses the name Katie, was charged with “harassment without violence” for contacting Rebecca Wallis between February and March 2025.

The court heard that the harassment included four voice messages and one voice note. A separate allegation that Wallis had driven past Rebecca Wallis’s residence was withdrawn.

District Judge Rhys Williams accepted the plea on the basis recommended by defense attorney Narita Bahra. A sentencing hearing has been scheduled for July 14. The judge also ordered a psychiatric evaluation to be completed in advance.

According to prosecution statements, the messages continued even after Wallis had been arrested on February 28 and released on bail. A protective screen was placed in the courtroom to prevent any direct contact between the defendant and Rebecca Wallis.

During the hearing, prosecutor Simone Walsh told the court that the two had been in a relationship for 15 years and finalized their divorce in 2024.

The harassment began shortly after Rebecca Wallis informed her ex of a new relationship. Walsh described the communication as “harassing in nature,” stating that the “frequency, nature, and contents of the messages and voicemails amounted to harassment.”

Defense attorney Bahra argued that Wallis had been struggling with mental health issues during the period in question, including what was described as gender dysphoria. Bahra said that Wallis’s emotional state had "spiraled" and insisted there was no malicious intent behind the messages.

The defense contended that the complainant had not submitted the full exchange of communications to the police.

Bahra further stated that the defendant had taken a “pragmatic view” in pleading guilty, intending to avoid further distress for the family and two children. A psychiatric report, which will examine mental health factors relevant to the case, including gender dysphoria, is expected to be presented at sentencing.

Wallis appeared in court dressed in a black cardigan and white shirt and spoke briefly to confirm identity and enter a plea.

“My preferred name is Katie, but my legal name is still Jamie,” Wallis said.

Previously, Wallis had been known as the first sitting UK MP to announce a transgender identity in 2022, stating at the time that there had been a lifelong struggle with gender dysphoria. That announcement followed a car crash incident in which Wallis fled the scene after driving a Mercedes while dressed in high heels and a leather mini-skirt.

Wallis also previously disclosed having experienced rape and blackmail and claimed to suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder. The MP announced in 2023 that a decision had been made not to seek re-election due to changes to the Westminster constituency boundaries.
