JUST IN: Man arrested after plowing car into pedestrians during Liverpool parade


It was not immediately clear how many were injured from the attack.

Police in Liverpool are on the scene after a collision that occurred during Liverpool FC’s Premier League victory parade on Monday evening, local time.

A man was detained after a car struck pedestrians in the city’s center just after 6 pm.

Footage shared online appeared to show police securing the area as crowds watched from nearby.



The incident happened on Water Street while crowds had gathered to celebrate Liverpool FC's league title.

Emergency crews responded quickly after receiving reports of a car driving into a group of people, the BBC reports.

“We are currently dealing with reports of a road traffic collision in Liverpool city centre,” Merseyside Police said in a statement released, according to the Daily Mail. “We were contacted at just after 6pm today, Monday 26 May, following reports a car had been in a collision with a number of pedestrians on Water Street. The car stopped at the scene and a male has been detained. Emergency services are currently on the scene. We will issue more updates as we have them.”

It was not immedaitely clear how many were injured from the attack.
