Authorities have recovered the body of Amanda Nenigar near the California border with Arizona after she had been missing since Feb. 28.
"It is with a heavy heart that we must report to you all, she was found deceased last night, Friday March 29th 2024, and is no longer a missing persons case," her family stated Friday, according to the New York Post.
Her body was discovered naked near Cibola, Ariz. Investigators believe she may have removed her clothes in a bid to cool off, but ultimately died of exposure to the elements. Her official cause of death remains undetermined.
She was last seen alive on Feb. 28 in California. Her 911 call went to a dispatcher in that state instead of Arizona, where she was found. Her car was discovered March 7 near that location.
"We were hopeful that we could find her alive and that she would be OK. It’s very disheartening when it comes to something like this, and it’s saddening for the family," La Paz County Sheriff William Ponce told AZ Family. He further indicated that she had likely been dead for a significant amount of time before authorities found her.
