President Joe Biden on Monday declared his "love and support" for son Hunter Biden on the first day of his federal gun trial but also said he doesn't comment on being cases. 

The trial begins with jury selection, in a federal courthouse in Wilmington, Delaware. 

"I am the President, but I am also a Dad. Jill and I love our son, and we are so proud of the man he is today," Biden said about son Hunter and first lady Jill Biden, according to NBC News. "Hunter’s resilience in the face of adversity and the strength he has brought to his recovery are inspiring to us. A lot of families have loved ones who have overcome addiction and know what we mean. As the President, I don’t and won’t comment on pending federal cases.

The younger Biden has been charged in Delaware with three felony crimes linked to 2018 firearm purchase while he was using drugs. The accusations include lying to the licensed gun dealer, making a false claim on the application used to screen firearm's buyers by saying he was not a drug user, and illegally possessing the firearm for 11 days. 

He has acknowledged that he was using drugs at the time. 

President Biden repeatedly insisted during the 2020 presidential campaign and afterward that his son "has done nothing wrong."
