Daily Caller retracts story on White House banning religious-themed Easter eggs from art contest

The Daily Caller has retracted a story from last week about the White House banning religious Easter eggs from an art contest, saying the news outlet made the decision after becoming aware of "additional context that undercut the central assertion of [the] article and its newsworthiness."

The story Friday stated the Biden White House had “banned children from submitting Easter eggs with religious themes” for the contest.

The White House pointed out the ban has been in place for decades, including during the Trump administration, and the story was retracted later that day.

The story about the retraction also reads: "The ban of religious symbolism on eggs as part of the White House Easter egg activities has been longstanding, dating back decades, and the Biden administration did not make any modifications to this rule. While the Caller did not explicitly state at any point that the rule was new, this additional context rendered the main thrust of the article misleading to readers, who could reasonably have come to the conclusion that the rule was new."

The Daily Caller in the retraction also included a link to a screenshot of the story.
