Florida Rep. Greg Steube, R-Fla said Friday that there needs to be a criminal referral against first son Hunter Biden. 

"Yeah, absolutely," Steube said when asked on the "Just the News, No Noise" TV show. "That needs to happen. I haven't personally had a conversation with the chairman of our committee, but I would imagine that's forthcoming."

The chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee on Wednesday formally accused Hunter Biden of lying to Congress, releasing fresh evidence from two IRS whistleblowers that conflicts with the testimony President Joe Biden's son gave to lawmakers a few months ago. 

"Hunter Biden’s deposition is key to understanding the attempts to conceal how the family made millions from selling access," Chairman Jason Smith, R-Mo., said in a statement. "Yet, new documents provided by the whistleblowers show that Hunter Biden repeatedly lied to Congress in his February deposition to distance his involvement in what should be considered a clear scheme to enrich the Biden family."

Steube emphasized that lying to Congress is a serious charge.

"Remember, Michael Cohen was prosecuted for lying to Congress," he said. "That's one of the reasons why he went to prison. This is a serious charge. We put every single person that is a witness before us under oath. And it's even more exacerbated because of all the legal problems that Hunter Biden has."

Hunter Biden already faces two trials this year on gun and tax evasion charges.
