Harris slams Trump's first 100 days in speech: 'Constitutional crisis'

Former Vice President Kamala Harris slammed President Trump's first 100 days in office in a speech Wednesday night, warning of a potential "constitutional crisis."

"Now, I know tonight's event happens to coincide with the 100 days after the inauguration, and I'll leave to others to give a full accounting of what has happened so far," Harris said during her speech in San Francisco that ended shortly before midnight, Fox News reported. "But I will say this. Instead of the administration working to advance America's highest ideals, we are witnessing the wholesale abandonment of those ideals."

She said that Americans are speaking up against Trump's actions, saying, “It is not OK to violate court orders. Not OK. Saying it is not OK to detain or disappear American citizens or anyone without due process.”

Harris continued: “We are living in a moment when the checks and balances upon which we have historically relied have begun to buckle. And we here know that when the checks and balances ultimately collapse, if Congress fails to do its part, or if courts fail to do their part, or if both do their part, but the president defies them anyway, well, friends, that is called a constitutional crisis."

The speech was Harris's second major one since losing the 2024 presidential election and was at a 20th anniversary gala for Emerge, a group that recruits, trains and provides a network for women who want to run for office as a Democrat.

The former vice president previously gave a speech in February when accepting the Chairman’s Award at the 56th NAACP Image Awards. She got her start in political office in San Francisco. Harris gave no indication in Wednesday's speech that she would run for governor in California, after having said she will decide this summer.
