One of the illegal aliens recently arrested in an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raid that kicked off ongoing riots in Los Angeles was convicted of murder for his role in a 1994 graduation party shooting, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) highlighted on Monday.
The news release came in the wake of riots in Los Angeles that have seen violent demonstrators flying Mexican flags and sparring with law enforcement. The Trump administration has called in the National Guard to quell the unrest.
Cuong Chanh Phan was convicted of second-degree murder, following a manhunt involving more than 120 sheriff's deputies.
“It is sickening that Governor Newsom and Mayor Bass continue to protect violent criminal illegal aliens at the expense of the safety of American citizens and communities. This cold-blooded killer is who the rioters are trying to protect over U.S. citizens,” Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said. “The brave men and women of ICE put their lives on the line every day to arrest violent criminals like this and protect the lives of American citizens."
