Katie Ledecky wins gold at Paris Olympics in 1,500 meter freestyle record-breaking swim

United States Olympic swimmer Katie Ledecky finished first in Paris on Wednesday night, securing the gold medal in the Olympic 1,500-meter freestyle.

Ledecky has now won 12 medals over the course of four Olympic games, making her one of the most decorated female swimmers in Olympic history, according to USA Today. The current record for swimming overall is held by U.S. Olympian Michael Phelps, who has a total of 28 medals.

Ledecky also set a new Olympic record in her latest race, finishing the competition in 15 minutes and 30 seconds. The medal is her first gold at the Paris Olympics, but she also won Bronze in the 400-meter freestyle on Saturday.

The Olympian still has two more events coming up this year,  the 4x200 freestyle team relay and the 800 freestyle.

French swimmer Anastasiia Kirpichnikova won the silver in the 1,500-meter freestyle, and Germany's Isabel Gose finished with the bronze. Kirpichnikova finished over 10 seconds behind Ledecky.
