Georgia Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene on Monday fumed against House Speaker Mike Johnson's handling of budget negotiations, foreign aid, and the security situation at the southern border, contending that he had largely capitulated to the Biden administration on all three key points.
"The only thing necessary for evil to triumph in the world is that good men do nothing," she posted on X, referencing a quote often attributed to British statesman Edmund Burke. "Speaker Johnson completely surrendered all power we had in the House to stop horrendous crimes like child rape by illegals when he fully funded Biden’s deadly open border without a fight."
Greene's message came in response to video footage from Fox News's Bill Melugin of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents detaining alleged illegal alien criminals that included claims local authorities had refused to honor ICE detainers on the suspects.
The Georgia lawmaker has been an outspoken critic of Republican leadership, in particular Johnson's support for compromise budget legislation to avert a government shutdown that did not include many of the Republican Party's key legislative agendas. Earlier on Monday, Johnson suggested he would pursue Ukraine aid legislation, albeit with some "innovations."
The prospect of a Ukraine aid bill drew further rebuke from Greene, who stated that "[i]f Speaker Johnson gives another $60 billion to the defense of Ukraine’s border after he FULLY FUNDED Biden’s deadly open border, the cruel joke would be on the American people. And it won’t be April Fools."
