NATO is working on creating "land corridors" to deploy U.S. troops and equipment to the front line in the case of a full-scale European war with Russia.
Under the plan, U.S. soldiers would land at one of five ports and be brought across pre-planned routes to fight Russia if the need ever arose, The Telegraph reported Tuesday.
Potential entry routes for U.S. troops in northern Europe include the Netherlands, Germany and the Baltics. If that is not possible due to Russian bombardment, the troops would be brought in through ports in Italy, Turkey and Greece, according to the plan.
The arrangements are being made such that it ensures Moscow cannot sever the line of communications.
"Everything is created in a way so the necessary resilience exists – robustness, reserves and also redundancies," Lt. Gen. Alexander Sollfrank, leader of NATO's Joint Support and Enabling Command, told the U.K.-based paper.
There is an increased level of urgency to the plan, as Norway Chief of Defense Eirik Kristoffersen told Bloomberg on Tuesday that NATO only has two to three years to prepare for a potential war with Russia.
