New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced on Wednesday that she is "indefinitely" postponing the implementation of a congestion pricing plan in Manhattan, which was scheduled to soon take effect.
“After careful consideration I have come to the difficult decision that implementing the planned congestion system risks too many unintended consequences for New Yorkers at this time,” Hochul said in a video briefing.
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority formally approved the plan in March.
Under the plan, drivers of standard vehicles.would have needed to pay $15 to enter Manhattan south of 60th street, according to local new reports. Heavy trucks and other commercial vehicles would have needed to pay a higher rate.
