The New York Police Department on Monday arrested at least two dozen protesters at Trump Tower, who were demonstrating against a series of recent Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids.
The arrests come as hundreds of anti-ICE protesters demonstrate against raids in Los Angeles. Those demonstrations began on Friday, stretched across the weekend and continue Monday.
The protesters in New York are expected to be charged with trespassing, according to the New York Daily News. No injuries have been reported.
The demonstrators were calling on the United States to bring back deported illegal immigrants, who were sent to a notorious prison in El Salvador over allegations of being members of the violent gangs MS-13 and Tren de Aragua.
“We are demanding that the administration bring back everyone from CECOT to the United States, release them ICE custody, return them to their homes and families and allow them their day in court,” one protester shouted, per the New York Post.
A larger protest is expected to take place outside 26 Federal Plaza on Monday afternoon.
