Rep. Angie Craig becomes fifth Democrat to call on Biden to drop out of presidential race

Rep. Angie Craig, D-Minn., on Saturday became the fifth Democratic representative to call on President Joe Biden to drop out of the presidential race.

"[G]iven what I saw and heard from the President during last week's debate in Atlanta, coupled with the lack of a forceful response from the President himself following that debate, I do not believe that the President can effectively campaign and win against Donald Trump," Craig said in a statement being shared on the social media platform, X.

Other representatives who have called on Biden to drop out of the race include Reps. Lloyd Doggett, D-Texas, Raúl Grijalva, D-Ariz., Mike Quigley, D-Ill., and Seth Moulton, D-Mass., according to Axios.

"This is not a decision I've come to lightly, but there is simply too much at stake to risk a second Donald Trump presidency," Craig's statement reads.

After President Biden and presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump squared off in the first presidential debate, several Democrats have called on Biden to drop out of the race based on his poor performance.

However, the White House has insisted Biden will be staying in the race.
